As an Instructional Designer, I was asked to create a series of learning modules that concentrated on three fundamental behaviors outlined in Principle 2 of the College of Nurses Code of Conduct. These principles are: self-reflection, fostering safer healthcare experiences, and emphasizing training and education.
These learning modules were created in collaboration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
Did I like this software? YES! It allowed me to create characters, pan, zoom, include text to speech, and have music softly playing in the background. I could add sound effects, move characters around, delete and add slides with ease. I also created this video using open captions, so that they met WCAG2.0 (accessibility) requirements.
Using a UX framework, let me show you how this product turned from concept to reality.
Context
Recently, there were changes made to the Code of Conduct1, specifically Principle 2, that nurses were required to learn. Pictured below is a fictitious account of a nurse persona.

Problem Statement
David is a Nurse who needs to learn the updated Code because they need to integrate culturally safe care into their practice.
Goal Statement
CNO will provide learning by creating short, focused training videos (less than 3.5 minutes in length) that will help make these principles easier to understand and memorable.
1 The Code of Conduct is the overarching practice standard that describes the core behaviors and conduct all nurses in Ontario professionally account to.
Steps
First I constructed the script and used a template to position the details of on slide text and captioning. Scripting was advised in consultation with SMEs and a communication consultant. Once the content was completed and approved, I began creating the story inside Vyond, using artifacts such as animation blocks, office objects, shapes, and captions.
Shown below is the scripted table format. Essentially, this scripting helped to illustrate a storyboard for the client that outlined the flow of the story and key decision points.
Script and Table

Finished
Once finished with this process, I sent out an email with a link to the PDF and asked for comments. The table was extended with another column and reviewers could identify what they wanted changed and provide feedback to me. Link to the video was also provided so that they could see the animation in real time.
Vyond at the time of this video did not have a review area, only a review link which I shared with reviewers.
Response to the videos were … FANTASTIC! The consultants, SMEs, and the Leadership Team were so happy to have something that showed a lot more engagement than only reading text on a webpage.
Response from nurses were … also FANTASTIC! They were so happy to learn more, that I was asked for two more videos! I gladly accepted.
All videos: Code of Conduct: Principle 2
